Knicks Plan Interviews with Taylor Jenkins, Mike Brown for Head Coach

The New York Knicks are set to formally interview former Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins and former Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown as leading candidates to replace Tom Thibodeau, who was fired after the Knicks' elimination from the Eastern Conference finals. The Knicks have faced challenges in interviewing current coaches like Dallas Mavericks' Jason Kidd and others, leading them to focus on candidates they can interview without needing permission from their current teams. Jenkins, 40, compiled a 250-214 record with the Grizzlies over six seasons, including three playoff appearances, but was fired late in the 2024-25 season. Brown, 61, is a two-time NBA Coach of the Year with a 454-304 head coaching record and multiple NBA titles as an assistant coach; he was recently dismissed from the Kings after a disappointing start to the season. Although the Knicks might revisit discussions with Kidd and Bulls coach Billy Donovan, their current teams have shown little interest in negotiations. Additionally, former Denver coach Mike Malone, who won an NBA title in 2023, is available but has not been confirmed as a candidate.
