Lawsuit Filed Against Esparto Fireworks Owners After Deadly Explosion

A lawsuit was filed by Etta James Farming LLC against the owners and operators of the Esparto fireworks facility, which exploded on July 1, killing seven people and causing extensive damage. The suit names Devastating Pyrotechnics, BlackStar Fireworks, and Yolo County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Sam Machado, who owned the land where the facility was located, alleging illegal and unpermitted fireworks operations. The lawsuit claims the defendants engaged in reckless practices, failing to comply with safety standards, which led to catastrophic explosions and damage to crops, farm infrastructure, and equipment. The plaintiff seeks economic damages and punitive measures to hold those responsible accountable and prevent future incidents. Family members of some victims are also considering legal action. Local authorities have urged the State Attorney General to lead the investigation into the explosion.
