Clearwater Ferry Hit-and-Run Leaves One Dead
On April 27, 2025, a 37-foot recreational boat struck the rear of the Clearwater Ferry near the Memorial Causeway Bridge in Clearwater, Florida, pushing the ferry onto a sandbar. The ferry carried 45 people, including crew, and the collision resulted in one death and 10 injuries, with six people transported as trauma alerts to area hospitals. All known victims were adults. The recreational boat fled the scene but was found about 3.5 miles away; its operator cooperated with authorities and tested negative for alcohol. Both vessels have been seized as part of the ongoing investigation, and no charges have been filed yet. The incident is being described as a hit-and-run on the water.
