Police Shoot Man Attacking Sister in Yarra Junction

A man was shot dead by police in Yarra Junction, Victoria, after he violently attacked his sister with a samurai sword and attempted to strangle her, leaving her unconscious and with a partially severed arm. Police responded to a call from the siblings’ mother and attempted to subdue the man with non-lethal force, including stun guns, before using lethal force as the assault continued. Despite efforts by paramedics, the man died at the scene, while his sister was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. Authorities confirmed the man had a history of mental health issues. The incident is being investigated by homicide detectives and the Professional Standards Command, as is standard for police shootings. The state coroner also attended the scene and police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
