American Airlines Raises 2025 Profit Forecast Amid Improved Demand
American Airlines narrowed its third-quarter loss to about $114 million (17 cents a share) on roughly $13.7 billion in revenue, beating expectations, and said unit revenue improved sequentially with September returning to positive growth. The carrier raised its 2025 adjusted EPS outlook to $0.65–$0.95 and expects fourth-quarter adjusted EPS of $0.45–$0.75, both above Wall Street estimates, sending shares up in premarket trading. Management attributed the rebound to industry-wide capacity cuts that have supported pricing, especially strong premium-unit revenue and growth in loyalty and co‑brand card spending. The airline acknowledged regional losses and disruptions from weather and an FAA outage but highlighted cost management, balance‑sheet focus and plans to reduce debt and generate over $1 billion in free cash flow. Analysts and brokers note the importance of premium and loyalty revenue even as the stock remains roughly 30% lower year-to-date, reflecting lingering investor skepticism despite the brighter guidance.
