Denver Broncos Plan Privately Funded Retractable Roof Stadium Burnham Yard 2031
The Denver Broncos have announced plans to build a new privately funded stadium at Burnham Yard, a historic railyard district near downtown Denver, targeting completion for the 2031 NFL season. The new stadium will feature a retractable roof, a unique choice among cold-weather cities that typically opt for fixed roofs, allowing for year-round events including NFL games, concerts, and conventions. The retractable roof will enable the Broncos to host a Super Bowl for the first time, as well as provide fans with a more comfortable viewing experience by protecting against weather delays and cold temperatures. The stadium will be part of a mixed-use development designed to enhance transit access and connectivity in the area. Ownership, led by Greg Penner and Carrie Walton Penner, emphasized that the project will be privately funded with no new taxes, aiming to reconnect historic neighborhoods while continuing the team's legacy in Denver. The Broncos currently play at Empower Field at Mile High, located less than a mile from the new proposed site.
