Bridge Collapse Kills Two, Injures 32, Rescue Ongoing Maharashtra

A 30-year-old iron bridge over the Indrayani River in Pune's Kundamala area, Maharashtra, collapsed on June 15 while crowded with around 100 tourists, resulting in at least two deaths and 32 injuries, with several others feared trapped or swept away by the river's strong current caused by recent heavy monsoon rains. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow, confirmed rescue operations involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and stated that six critically injured individuals are receiving hospital treatment. The bridge, a popular spot near a dam and waterfall, was in a dilapidated state and frequently used by tourists for crossing and photography. Rescue efforts remain ongoing with police, disaster relief teams, and NDRF working intensively to locate and assist those affected. The incident has drawn concern over infrastructure safety in the region, recalling a similar 2022 bridge collapse in Gujarat that resulted in over 130 deaths. Local officials and political leaders, including NCP's Supriya Sule, have conveyed condolences and urged vigilance as search and relief continue.
