Former F1 Driver Kubica Wins Le Mans 24 Hours with Ferrari
Robert Kubica, the Polish racing driver and former Formula 1 competitor, secured a landmark victory at the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving the No. 83 Ferrari 499P alongside teammates Yifei Ye and Phil Hanson for the AF Corse privateer team. This win marks Ferrari's third consecutive triumph at Le Mans and Kubica's first at the event, making him only the second driver this century to win both a Formula 1 race and Le Mans, joining Fernando Alonso in this elite group. Kubica, who overcame severe injuries from a rally crash in 2011 that nearly ended his racing career, described the victory as a special and demanding achievement, emphasizing the team's strategic balance of pushing hard and preserving their car and tires. The race was closely contested, with the Ferrari team narrowly defeating the Porsche Penske Motorsport team by just over 14 seconds, while another Ferrari finished third, rounding out a strong showing for the marque. This victory is also notable as the first overall Le Mans win for a privateer team since the mid-1990s and highlights the dominance of the Ferrari 499P model in endurance racing. Kubica's win is celebrated not only as a personal comeback story but also as a testament to Ferrari's enduring excellence in motorsport.
