Widespread UK Tram, Train Services Face August Disruptions for Engineering Works

Significant disruptions to public transport services are expected across several regions in the UK due to essential maintenance and engineering works. In Greater Manchester, the Metrolink tram network is undergoing a £150 million upgrade, causing ongoing disruptions including work at Pomona and on the Eccles line. East Midlands Railway has warned of three weeks of disruption to train services between Nottingham, Manchester, and Liverpool due to a major bridge replacement in Stockport, with alternative travel arrangements in place including rail replacement buses and ticket acceptance on other operators. In South Yorkshire, the tram train service between Rotherham and Sheffield has been suspended indefinitely following a mechanical fault, with ticket acceptance agreements made with First Bus and Northern Rail to assist commuters. Nottingham Express Transit is conducting nighttime maintenance on the tram line between Wilkinson Street and The Forest, resulting in early service closures from August 4 to 7 and a replacement bus service to minimize passenger disruption.
