Gunmen Kill 8 NSCDC Officers, Kidnap Chinese National in Edo Ambush
On September 5, 2025, in Okpella, Edo State, gunmen ambushed a convoy escorting Chinese expatriates from BUA Cement Company, killing eight Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel and a civilian driver, and abducting one Chinese national. The attack occurred around 10:30 p.m. along the Okpella–Agenebode axis, with the assailants using sophisticated weapons to overwhelm the convoy of twelve personnel. Four other expatriates were rescued unhurt, while three officers and four others sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment. Among the fallen was Chief Corps Assistant Oluwatosin Sunday from the Ondo State Command. The NSCDC has described the incident as a grievous loss and affirmed its commitment to protecting national assets and infrastructure, while joint security forces continue an intensive manhunt to rescue the kidnapped expatriate and apprehend the perpetrators. The event highlights growing security challenges in Edo State, particularly targeting industrial sites and foreign nationals.
