Motörhead Lemmy Statue Unveiled in Burslem with Thousands Attending
A bronze statue of Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister was unveiled in his birthplace, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, as part of Motörhead's 50th anniversary celebrations. Created by local sculptor Andy Edwards, the 2.25-meter statue depicts Lemmy in his iconic 1980s stage pose and includes a portion of his ashes placed inside the plinth by Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell. The unveiling event attracted thousands of fans worldwide, who gathered in Market Place for a lively celebration complete with live music and a biker cavalcade, reflecting Lemmy's enduring influence and unique spirit. Edwards, a Lemmy fan himself, emphasized the statue's local significance and Lemmy's status as a rock and roll icon. City officials advised visitors to plan for traffic delays and use designated parking due to the large turnout for the ceremony. The statue serves both as a memorial and a tribute to Lemmy's legacy and connection to his hometown.
