CDCR Apprehends Incarcerated Woman Who Walked Away from Sacramento Reentry Facility
Serena A. Moreno-Carrera, a 25-year-old incarcerated woman serving an eight-year, eight-month sentence for mayhem, vandalism, vehicle theft, and hit-and-run causing injury, walked away from a Female Community Reentry Program facility in Sacramento County on June 14, 2025, after tampering with her ankle monitor. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and local law enforcement agencies launched a search following an emergency count that confirmed her absence. Moreno-Carrera was received from Yolo County in 2021 and was participating in the reentry program designed to help eligible offenders transition back into the community with support services like substance use disorder treatment, mental health care, employment, education, housing, and family reunification. She is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 241 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. The CDCR reminds the public that 99% of those who leave such programs without permission are typically apprehended, and anyone with information about Moreno-Carrera's whereabouts is urged to contact law enforcement immediately. Moreno-Carrera later turned herself in at the California Institution for Women, ending the search.
