U.S. Steel, Aluminum Tariffs Spark Global Backlash

The United States has doubled tariffs on imported steel and aluminum to 50%, prompting strong criticism from Japan and the European Union. Japan's chief tariff negotiator, Ryosei Akazawa, has urged the U.S. to reconsider the move, citing negative impacts on Japan's economy, particularly its auto sector. The Japanese government is seeking a resolution ahead of the upcoming G7 summit. European businesses have also pressed the EU to intensify negotiations with the U.S. over the tariffs. Meanwhile, China is encouraging closer economic ties with Japan in response to the U.S. measures. So far, only the UK has reached a preliminary agreement with the U.S. to avoid the increased tariffs.
