Suspected Drunk Driver Hits Livingston County Sheriff SUV During Traffic Stop
On August 14, 2025, a suspected drunk driver with a blood alcohol level of .20, more than twice Michigan's legal limit, crashed into a Livingston County Sheriff's patrol SUV during a traffic stop on northbound US-23 near Clyde Road. The deputies and the stopped driver were unharmed, but the patrol vehicle sustained significant damage, including a scraped rear quarter panel and a knocked-off rear tire. The Livingston County Sheriff's Office released dashcam footage of the incident and emphasized the severe risks impaired driving poses not only to the driver but also to first responders and other road users. The driver was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated and taken to jail. This incident occurred amidst the ongoing "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, which runs through Labor Day, aiming to reduce impaired driving incidents. Officials urged the public to make responsible choices by planning ahead and using alternative transportation to save lives.
