Quebec Teachers Union Ends Strike, Ratifies Contract

Following a 22-day strike that led to the closure of 800 schools and affected 368,000 students, the FAE teachers' union, which represents over 66,500 teachers, has ratified a new labour agreement with the Quebec government. The Syndicat de l'enseignement de la Haute-Yamaska, the final union, voted in favour of the deal by a narrow majority of 50.58%. This means five of the union's nine members accepted the agreement, which includes higher pay and better working conditions as stated by Quebec Treasury Board President Sonia LeBel.
