Woman Unaware of Pregnancy Gives Birth at Burning Man Festival

Kayla and Kasey Thompson, attending the 2025 Burning Man festival in Nevada, experienced an unexpected and dramatic event when Kayla gave birth to their premature baby girl, Aurora, without knowing she was pregnant. Kayla, who showed no symptoms of pregnancy, woke up with severe cramps and delivered the three-pound-nine-ounce baby in their RV bathroom at Black Rock City. The couple quickly called for help, and fortunately, a neonatal nurse, an obstetrician-gynecologist, and a pediatrician present at the festival rushed to assist. Aurora was airlifted to a neonatal intensive care unit in Reno for specialized care, while Kayla and Kasey traveled by ambulance, facing a difficult separation during transport. Despite the surprise and challenging circumstances, the medical staff reassured the parents, and Kayla was discharged from the hospital shortly after. The Thompsons had traveled to Burning Man from Salt Lake City, initially planning a different camping arrangement, but the desert birth turned their festival experience into a life-changing event.
