Kenyan Miracle Babies Preacher Gilbert Deya Dies in Multi-Vehicle Crash

Gilbert Deya, a Kenyan televangelist known for claiming he could cure infertility through prayer, died in a multi-vehicle car accident in western Kenya. Deya, who started as a stonemason before styling himself as a bishop, founded the Gilbert Deya Ministries in the UK in the 1990s after moving there from Kenya. He and his wife claimed that infertile or menopausal women could conceive within four months without sexual relations, a claim that led to allegations of child theft in Kenya. Deya was accused of stealing five children between 1999 and 2004 and was extradited to Kenya in 2017 to face charges, which he denied. He was acquitted of all charges in 2023 and continued his ministry until his death. The accident also caused multiple casualties and was described as horrific by local officials.
