The Witcher Season 4 Sets Dark Final Chapter
Season 4 of Netflix’s The Witcher pushes Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri into darker, often traumatic places: Geralt finally receives knighthood from Queen Meve but is effectively bound to her service after a decisive battle. Ciri abandons her innocence to live with the Rats as “Falka,” but that life is violently shattered when bounty hunter Leo Bonhart attacks her. Yennefer leads the broken mages amid the ashes of Montecalvo, while Emhyr is revealed to have been duped by an imposter whom he keeps as a ruse while scheming to remove Geralt from the path that links him to Ciri. Geralt’s ragtag company grows to include Regis, Cahir, Yarpen, Zoltan, Milva and Jaskier, and they fight pivotal battles such as at the Yaruga bridge. The series handles Henry Cavill’s exit by recasting Geralt with Liam Hemsworth and integrating the change into story beats rather than an explicit explanation, though some critics have expressed disappointment with the new lead. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich called the finale, “Baptism of Fire,” particularly heartbreaking and said the final fifth season was written back-to-back with season four and is expected to be even darker.
