Two Teens Charged with Capital Murder in Montgomery Shooting

In Harris County, Texas, 17-year-old Mark Leyva has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the December 2024 shooting death of Giovanni Cruz, also 17. Cruz's body was discovered in a backyard in the Yaupon Ranch subdivision on December 21 after reports of gunfire in the area the night prior. The Harris County Sheriff's Office, which has been investigating the case since the incident, identified Leyva as a suspect in the months following the shooting. Leyva was apprehended by a law enforcement task force and is currently being held in Harris County Jail. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are encouraging anyone with information to come forward. A motive for the shooting has not yet been disclosed.
