Bangladesh Air Force Jet Crashes into Dhaka School Killing 19, Injuring 160+
A Bangladesh Air Force training jet, an F-7 BGI fighter, crashed into the Milestone School and College campus in Dhaka during a routine training flight, killing at least 19 people, including the pilot, and injuring over 100 others. The crash occurred shortly after the plane took off from Kurmitola Air Base due to mechanical failure, despite the pilot's efforts to divert the aircraft away from densely populated areas. Emergency responders, including firefighters and military rescue teams, worked to evacuate victims and control the fire caused by the crash, with more than 50 people hospitalized with burn injuries. The school, serving students aged 4 to 18, was in session with around 1,000 students on campus at the time of the incident. Bangladesh's interim government leader, Muhammad Yunus, expressed deep sorrow, declared a day of national mourning with flags at half-mast, and announced a full investigation into the crash. This tragic event follows a recent major aviation disaster in India, highlighting ongoing concerns about aviation safety in the region.
