UN Declares Israel’s Gaza Actions Genocide, Citing Massive Palestinian Casualties
The United Nations has formally declared Israel's conduct in Gaza as genocide, holding Israel and its highest-ranking leaders, including President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, responsible for orchestrating a genocidal campaign. The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry found that Israel committed multiple genocidal acts such as killing tens of thousands of civilians, destroying healthcare and education systems, and targeting children, with genocidal intent deemed the only reasonable inference. The 1948 Genocide Convention's definition was applied, noting Israel's actions caused severe bodily harm, inflicted destructive living conditions, prevented births, and forcibly transferred children. Since October 2023, over 64,000 Palestinians have been killed and almost 165,000 wounded, with Gaza facing famine and constant bombardments. Critics and authors like Fatima Bhutto emphasize the unprecedented scale of child casualties and describe Israel's actions as a new, grotesque form of warfare, with concerns that the violence poses an existential threat beyond Gaza. Additionally, reports highlight controversial plans, termed "Voluntary Immigration Plan," seen as part of a secret strategy to commit genocide under the guise of humanitarian efforts.
