Teen Girl Dies Swimming After Eating Pizza, Chips in Lincolnshire

Fifteen-year-old Lucy Reed died from asphyxiation after swimming on a full stomach of pizza and chips near Cleethorpes beach in Lincolnshire on June 24, 2023. Despite her mother's advice to wait for her food to settle, Lucy entered the water with a friend but quickly found herself out of her depth as the falling tide dragged them away from shore. After approximately 30 minutes in the water, Lucy vomited and inhaled her gastric contents, causing her to lose consciousness. A major search and rescue operation involving coastguard, police, and air ambulance was launched, and Lucy was eventually found and airlifted to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
