San Antonio High School Teacher Dies On Campus After Medical Emergency

Timothy Kitterman, a 65-year-old American Sign Language teacher at MacArthur High School in San Antonio, tragically died on campus after suffering a medical emergency during first period class. Kitterman was one of the original ASL teachers in the district, had over 20 years of teaching experience, was named Teacher of the Year in 2019, and also served as an adjunct professor at Our Lady of the Lake University. The school went into a hold while first responders attempted life-saving measures, but he did not survive. Principal Joaquin Hernandez informed parents and staff of the loss, with plans to announce the news to students and provide ongoing counseling support through the district’s Crisis Intervention Team. The district emphasized the availability of counselors to help students, parents, and staff process the loss. Separate from this, Susan Pflaum, a fifth-grade teacher at O'Connor Elementary School in Victoria, Texas, also passed away following a brief illness, with district counselors supporting staff and students during this difficult time.
