Youngstown State Students Win National Investment Competition

Students from Youngstown State University's Student Investment Fund won first place at the national Portfolio Building Competition organized by the Student Manager Investment Fund Consortium. The winning team, including James Kover, Anthony Graceffo, and Eli Masters, prepared a comprehensive investment plan analyzing macroeconomic, industrial, political, and global conditions to construct a mock portfolio of $100,000. The Student Investment Fund manages a real portfolio valued at approximately $3.8 million, providing students practical experience alongside their finance coursework. Additionally, Youngstown City Schools and Choffin Career and Technical Center have partnered with Youngstown State University to offer high school students college credit in specialized programs like firefighting and multimedia communications, facilitating a smoother and cost-effective transition to higher education. Meanwhile, Columbiana County Career and Technical Center promotes its 'What's Your E?' initiative encouraging students to plan their careers around being employed, enrolled in further education, or enlisted in the military, emphasizing the importance of purpose and passion in career choices.
