Manhattan Shooting Kills Security Guard, Three Others

Aland Etienne, a 46-year-old unarmed security guard working at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, was one of four people fatally shot during a mass shooting on July 28, 2025. The shooter, 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura, armed with an M4 rifle, opened fire in the lobby and on the 33rd floor before taking his own life. Etienne, a devoted father of two and a licensed security officer employed by McLane Security since 2017, was praised by his union, Local 32BJ SEIU, and family members as a dedicated and heroic figure who risked his life to protect others. His brother described him as a loving father and a role model, while union leaders highlighted the dangers security personnel face daily. Other victims included off-duty NYPD officer Didarul Islam and Blackstone executive Wesley LePatner. The tragedy has brought attention to the essential yet often underappreciated role of security workers in New York City.
