Kaiser Permanente, Renown Health Form Nevada Joint Venture Pending Approval

Kaiser Permanente is entering the northern Nevada market through a joint venture with Renown Health, acquiring a majority interest in Renown’s insurance arm, Hometown Health, to create Kaiser Permanente Nevada. The partnership, pending regulatory approval and expected to close in early 2026, will offer health coverage to northern Nevada residents and employers starting with the 2026 open enrollment period. Alongside the insurance plan, the partners will open a new multispecialty ambulatory health system in Reno, providing coordinated, value-based care while maintaining Renown’s existing hospitals and clinics. Renown Health CEO Brian Erling emphasized that the collaboration will expand access to affordable, high-quality insurance and care while keeping services local, benefiting from Kaiser Permanente’s national scale and technology. Hometown Health CEO Bethany Sexton highlighted challenges such as membership loss due to the pandemic and remote work, which the partnership aims to address by leveraging Kaiser’s buying power and innovation. This joint venture represents a unique model for Kaiser Permanente, combining local reputation with a national health system to meet the growing demand for integrated care in Nevada.
