Baylor, Shawnee, Princeton Add New Basketball Coaches
Ron Sanchez, a 29-year coaching veteran, has been hired as the associate head coach for Baylor men's basketball for the 2025-26 season, following his stint as interim head coach at Virginia during the 2024-25 season. Chad Johnson has been named head coach of the Shawnee High School boys basketball program, bringing experience from both collegiate and professional basketball, including time with the Dallas Mavericks. Princeton has also hired Mathew Johnson as an assistant coach; he joins the program after helping UConn win back-to-back national titles. These appointments illustrate a broader trend of high-profile and experienced coaches moving into key roles at various levels of basketball. Baylor's Scott Drew praised Sanchez's championship experience and defensive expertise, while supporters of Johnson at Shawnee highlighted his leadership and analytical skills. Collectively, these changes are expected to strengthen their respective programs.
