Braves Recall Luke Williams Place Jake Fraley On Injured List

The Atlanta Braves placed outfielder Jake Fraley on the 10-day injured list retroactive to September 11 due to a strained right oblique muscle. To fill the roster spot, the Braves selected the contract of infielder and utility player Luke Williams from Triple-A Gwinnett. Williams, who has struggled offensively with a .133 batting average and a .382 OPS this season, offers the Braves defensive versatility, pinch-running ability, and even pitching depth, having appeared in six games on the mound. Fraley, acquired by the Braves in August from Cincinnati, hit .304 in nine games with Atlanta and remains under team control via arbitration for the next season. Williams was previously designated for assignment and outrighted to Triple-A but accepted the assignment and is now back on the major league roster. While Williams is unlikely to see significant playing time, his multi-positional flexibility provides valuable depth for the Braves.
