Former Premier League Chief Richard Scudamore Joins Bristol City Board to Boost Premier League Promotion Efforts

Richard Scudamore, former Premier League and English Football League chief executive, has been appointed to the board of Bristol City, the biggest English football club never to have played in the Premier League. A lifelong fan, Scudamore aims to leverage his extensive experience and the club's infrastructure to help Bristol City achieve promotion to the Premier League, a goal the club has long pursued but not yet attained since the 1979-80 season. During his nearly 20 years leading the Premier League, he oversaw a significant increase in broadcast revenues from £670 million to over £5 billion, contributing to the league's global growth and financial success. Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown expressed confidence that Scudamore's expertise will help the club advance, working alongside chairman Jon Lansdown and CEO Tom Rawcliffe. Scudamore noted that while the club's passionate fanbase and stable facilities are strengths, they alone don't guarantee promotion, emphasizing a committed effort to make it happen. This marks Scudamore's first official football role since stepping down from the Premier League in 2018, underscoring his personal connection to Bristol City and ambition to guide the club to top-flight football.
