Multiple Midwest and South Bridges Reopen After Closures

Several major bridges in the Midwest and South, including the Zilwaukee Bridge in Michigan, Hanshaw Road Bridge in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and the Black Hawk (Lansing) Bridge between Iowa and Wisconsin, have recently reopened after inspections and repairs. The Zilwaukee Bridge's southbound lanes reopened on June 11, ahead of schedule, as part of a $2.9 million project, with northbound work planned for August. The Hanshaw Road Bridge reopened after structural repairs, though some lane closures remain for utility work. The Black Hawk Bridge reopened after safety inspections detected movement in a support pier last month, but additional closures are expected this summer as construction of a replacement bridge continues with completion targeted for 2027. Shuttle and water taxi services have been provided during closures to support local travel. Authorities are committed to providing advance notice for future closures to minimize disruptions.
