U.S. Reports 935 Measles Cases Across 29 States
The United States has recorded 935 confirmed measles cases so far this year, more than triple the total for all of 2024, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Outbreaks have occurred in 29 states, with Texas experiencing the largest surge—reporting 683 cases and two child deaths, primarily in areas with notably low vaccination rates. New Mexico and Kansas have also reported significant numbers, and genetic sequencing suggests the outbreaks in these states are linked. Health officials attribute the resurgence to falling vaccination rates, with 96% of infected individuals being unvaccinated or having an unknown vaccination status. The CDC and health experts warn that population immunity below 95% heightens outbreak risk and continue to urge MMR vaccination as the most effective preventive measure.
