Manhattan Midtown Mass Shooting Kills Four, Injures One, Shooter Dead

Shane Tamura, the gunman in the July 28 Midtown mass shooting in Manhattan, killed four people including an NYPD officer before taking his own life. Investigations revealed Tamura had purchased the AR-15 rifle and the BMW used to travel cross-country from his supervisor, Rick Ackley, at the Horseshoe Las Vegas casino, though the legality of the sale remains unclear. Police found multiple suicide notes in Tamura's possession, in which he blamed his mental health struggles and the shooting on chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain disease linked to repeated head trauma. A search of Tamura's Las Vegas apartment uncovered several prescription bottles including antipsychotic, anti-epileptic, and anti-inflammatory medications, along with ammunition and a rifle tripod. Tamura, a former high school football player, drove from Las Vegas to New York over three days before launching the attack at the Park Avenue office tower housing the NFL headquarters. Authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the supervisor's role in supplying the weapon.
