Ron Taylor, World Series Winner and Doctor, Dies
Ron Taylor, the Canadian relief pitcher known for his key role in the New York Mets' 1969 'Miracle Mets' World Series victory, has died at age 87 following a lengthy illness. Taylor also won a World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1964 and played for five Major League Baseball teams over 11 seasons, compiling a 3.93 ERA, 464 strikeouts, and 74 saves. After retiring in 1972, he earned a medical degree and served as the Toronto Blue Jays' team physician for over three decades, contributing to their 1992 and 1993 World Series wins. Taylor was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, and the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, and was appointed to the Order of Ontario. He was remembered by teammates as an unsung hero and a steadying presence in high-pressure situations. Taylor's legacy is marked by his dual impact on baseball and sports medicine.
