Marcos to Visit India, Expand Strategic Ties

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will make a state visit to India from August 4 to 8, 2025, marking the first such trip in nearly 20 years and commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties. Marcos will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other officials to discuss strengthening cooperation in trade, defense, maritime security, and regional affairs. The visit coincides with the first bilateral naval exercise between India and the Philippines in the South China Sea, focusing on interoperability and maritime security amid regional tensions. The Philippines has recently acquired BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles from India, with additional defense deals under consideration. Both countries are also expected to explore expanded partnerships in digital technology, healthcare, and people-to-people exchanges. India's growing naval engagement in Southeast Asia, including closer ties with the Philippines and Japan, highlights its broader Indo-Pacific security role.
