Maryland Man Charged Threatening Mass Violence At Children’s Camp
Benjamin Dewees, a 28-year-old man from Emmitsburg, Maryland, was arrested for making threats of mass violence at a children's camp held at Emmitsburg Elementary School. The threat prompted the immediate lockdown of the school, and children and staff were brought inside for safety. Deputies located Dewees nearby and during the arrest attempt, he assaulted two deputies, one of whom required hospital treatment and was later released. Dewees admitted to making the threatening statements during an interview with investigators. He faces multiple charges including threat of mass violence, second-degree assault, disturbing the peace, and disorderly conduct, and is being held without bond at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center. Authorities are requesting anyone with additional information to contact the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.
