Multiple regions across the United States have detected West Nile virus (WNV) in mosquito populations in 2025, prompting public health officials to urge residents to take precautions. In Midland County, Michigan, 13 mosquito samples tested positive, with no human cases reported yet, but officials are enhancing surveillance and encouraging elimination of mosquito breeding grounds. Lake County, Indiana, confirmed WNV in several mosquito traps, issuing a community-wide advisory emphasizing elimination of standing water and use of EPA-approved repellents.
