Buffalo Sabres Sign Goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to One-Year Deal
The Buffalo Sabres signed goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to a one-year, $825,000 contract ahead of the 2025-26 NHL season, adding depth to their goalie roster. Georgiev, 29, struggled last season splitting time between the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks, posting a combined 3.71 goals-against average and an .875 save percentage in 49 games. Despite his recent downturn in performance, Georgiev has career totals of a 2.99 GAA and .903 save percentage over 303 games, including 151 wins. He will compete with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Alex Lyon, and Devon Levi for playing time, but the Sabres appear to view him more as a backup or minor league option given his affordable cap hit and recent struggles. The team has committed to Luukkonen as their starter and is still developing Levi as a potential future star. Georgiev's signing provides insurance in goal and a chance for him to rebound and possibly prove his NHL viability again.
