UK Launches 10 Green Hydrogen Projects Across Industrial Regions

The UK has initiated the construction of ten commercial-scale green hydrogen projects under its Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR1), marking a significant advancement toward becoming a clean energy superpower. These projects, supported by over £2 billion in government funding and £400 million in private investment, aim to decarbonize heavy industries such as steelmaking and chemical production while creating more than 700 skilled jobs across regions like Teesside, South Wales, and North Scotland. All projects focus on green hydrogen produced via electrolysis, ensuring zero carbon emissions and supporting the UK’s 2050 net zero roadmap. Globally, green hydrogen is gaining momentum, with Europe and the U.S. aggressively expanding electrolyzer infrastructure and hydrogen production capacity, driven by geopolitical and climate imperatives. Meanwhile, the Asia-Pacific region is rapidly growing its hydrogen storage market, expected to expand with a 12.6% CAGR through 2034, leveraging technologies such as compressed hydrogen and material-based storage to support renewable energy integration. Additionally, hydrogen-electric aviation is emerging, exemplified by the upcoming U.S. launch of a hydrogen-powered Beech Bonanza aircraft, highlighting hydrogen’s expanding role in clean energy innovation.
