André 3000 Drops Piano Album at Met Gala

At the 2025 Met Gala, André 3000 made a dramatic entrance wearing a Burberry and Benji Bixby jumpsuit with a baby grand piano strapped to his back, coinciding with the surprise release of his instrumental album '7 Piano Sketches.' The seven-track, 16-minute project, recorded mostly on André's iPhone and inspired by artists like Thelonious Monk and Joni Mitchell, features improvisational solo piano pieces with quirky voice-note introductions and no lyrics. The album’s cover art mirrors his Met Gala ensemble, and the unconventional rollout generated significant online buzz and praise for its creativity. Much of the music was composed a decade ago in Texas while living with his son, and André described the album as 'The Best Worst Rap Album In History.' The release follows his acclaimed 2023 flute-based album 'New Blue Sun,' and comes ahead of OutKast’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction and André receiving an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music.
