Child Rescued After Water Main Break Sweeps Drainage Sarasota
A child playing near a culvert on Bahia Vista Street in Sarasota County was swept into the drainage system due to a strong water flow caused by a water main break. The child was carried approximately 100 yards through the drain before being rescued by Sarasota County Fire-Rescue personnel and taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for medical attention. The incident prompted the closure of Bahia Vista Street to both eastbound and westbound traffic between Honore Avenue and Arcadia Avenue. Public Works is actively addressing the water main break at the scene. Authorities have urged motorists to use alternate routes until the situation is resolved. The child's current condition remains unspecified, though they were conscious at the time of rescue.
