Rockslide Kills Hiker Near Bow Glacier Falls
A rockslide struck a group of hikers near Bow Glacier Falls in Banff National Park, Alberta, on Thursday afternoon, resulting in one death and three injuries, with the injured transported to hospital. The emergency response involved Parks Canada, RCMP, search and rescue teams, drones, dog handlers, and geotechnical experts to assess slope safety and search for possible additional victims. Infrared flights and a no-fly zone have been enacted to aid responders, while heavy rain and possible snow are complicating recovery efforts. All guests at the nearby Bow Hut are reported safe and will exit using a secure route. The area around Bow Lake remains closed as investigation and search operations continue, but Banff National Park otherwise remains open. Local and provincial officials have urged the public to avoid the affected area and expressed condolences to those impacted.
