Retired Auburn Veterinary Professor Killed in Auburn Park Attack

Dr. Julie Gard Schnuelle, a beloved retired veterinary professor at Auburn University, was fatally attacked while walking her dog in Kiesel Park, Auburn, Alabama. The 59-year-old was found dead in a wooded area of the park with injuries from a sharp object, while her dog remained unharmed. Harold Rashad Dabney III, 28, was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder; he allegedly also stole Schnuelle’s red Ford F-150, which was later recovered. Schnuelle was a respected educator and board-certified theriogenologist who had a significant impact on her students and the veterinary community. Friends and former students described her as a force of nature and a bright light who was deeply missed. The local community and officials expressed their condolences and called for justice in response to the tragic killing.
