Rangers Name Skip Schumaker Manager
The Texas Rangers have hired Skip Schumaker as their next manager, agreeing to a four-year contract reportedly covering the 2026–29 seasons and planning an introductory press conference in the coming days. Schumaker, 45, had been a senior/special advisor in the Rangers' front office since last November and was the club’s clear internal lead candidate, president of baseball operations Chris Young said. He previously managed the Miami Marlins in 2023–24, won NL Manager of the Year in 2023 after guiding Miami to the postseason, and did not return following the Marlins’ 62–100 2024 season. He succeeds Bruce Bochy, whose three‑year contract ended after Texas’ 81–81 2025 season; Bochy is transitioning to an advisory role with the club. Schumaker’s résumé includes coaching stints with the Cardinals and Padres and an 11‑season major‑league playing career (2005–2015) in which he hit .278 with 28 homers and 284 RBIs.
