Inmate Shoots Prisoner Injuring Leg During Mount Vernon Transport

On October 16, five prisoners were being transported from the Mount Vernon Police Department to the Westchester County Jail when a single gunshot was heard inside the police van. Upon returning to the Mount Vernon Police Department, officers found one prisoner with a minor gunshot wound to the leg, who was then hospitalized. A firearm was recovered from the scene, and another prisoner has been detained as a person of interest in the shooting.
