Boyfriend Charged in Decapitation of South Dakota Mother

Heather Ann Bodden, a 41-year-old woman, was found decapitated in her Yankton, South Dakota apartment on January 2, one day after sending a text to a friend stating her boyfriend, Craig Allen Nichols Jr., had threatened her with a weapon. Nichols, 32, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter, among other offenses. Friends discovered Bodden's head stuffed in a trash bag after they went to check on her when she had not been heard from for over 24 hours. Surveillance footage allegedly shows Nichols entering and exiting Bodden's home multiple times on the night of her murder. Police found additional evidence, including bloody clothing belonging to Nichols and weapons, during their investigation. Nichols is currently being held on a $500,000 bond and is due in court next on Wednesday.
