Multiple Crashes Disrupt UK and US Transport

Multiple serious collisions across the UK and US have caused widespread transport disruption today. The M6 southbound in Staffordshire is closed between J13 (Stafford) and J12 (Cannock) after an overnight HGV–van crash, leaving the carriageway shut for several hours with delays of around an hour and queues reported back to J14. In Glasgow, three collisions on the M77 during rush hour restricted northbound traffic at J1 and caused delays of about 36 minutes, with separate incidents at junctions 3 and 7 later cleared. A crash on the M11 in Essex between J7 and J6 initially closed lanes and caused delays up to 90 minutes before all lanes reopened while emergency services and recovery crews remained on site. In the US, multiple crashes on I-30 and I-40 in Arkansas and several incidents on Memphis interstates — including two collisions and a vehicle fire — produced significant backups, with few serious injuries reported. Separately, Sydney’s Sydenham-to-Bankstown metro conversion has been delayed to 2026, extending replacement-bus disruption as driverless train testing and final safety approvals continue.
