Jack Alexy Breaks American 100m Freestyle Record at World Aquatics Championships
At the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, American swimmer Jack Alexy set a new American record in the men's 100m freestyle semifinals with a time of 46.81 seconds, surpassing Caeleb Dressel's 2019 record of 46.96 seconds. This performance positioned Alexy as the top qualifier for the finals and marked him as the third-fastest performer in history behind world record holder Pan Zhanle and David Popovici. Alexy, who won gold in the 4x100 freestyle relay and silver in the 4x100 medley relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics, significantly improved upon his own previous U.S. Open record of 46.99 seconds set earlier in June. The semifinals also featured strong competition from Romanian swimmer David Popovici, who finished just behind Alexy at 46.84 seconds, while Pan Zhanle failed to make the final. Alexy’s rapid rise includes earning multiple medals at the 2023 World Championships and solid collegiate performances, highlighting him as one of the leading American swimmers poised for further success. The 100m freestyle final is highly anticipated, with Alexy leading the field amid a competitive international roster.
