European €10M MACBETH Project Launches Megawatt EV Truck Charging Network
The MACBETH project, a €10 million initiative led by the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, aims to develop and demonstrate megawatt-scale charging hubs for heavy-duty electric vehicles across Europe by 2030. This consortium of 19 European partners, including companies like Kempower and Rocsys, is conducting two large-scale pilot projects to test hybrid charging stations that serve heavy, medium-duty, and private vehicles, focusing on safety, design, and operational efficiency. Kempower contributes advanced DC fast charging technology and management software, while Rocsys is developing a robotic charging arm to improve safety and efficiency by automating the charging process, allowing drivers to rest during charging. The project seeks to establish best practices and explore new business models for charging infrastructure, addressing key challenges in scaling sustainable heavy-duty transport. In parallel, Isabellenhütte has introduced certified DC meters capable of supporting high-power and megawatt charging applications, including models with innovative features like CAN interfaces for real-time data transmission and bi-directional measurements. Additionally, efforts to expand EV charging infrastructure are underway in other regions, such as Romania, where EVConnect and Selgros are collaborating to install fast charging stations in commercial centers, enhancing access and convenience for EV users.
