NZ Post, Australia Post Resume Most US Parcel Services After Tariff Changes
Both NZ Post and Australia Post have resumed parcel shipping services to the United States following disruptions caused by new U.S. tariff and customs regulations that eliminated the de minimis exemption for low-value goods. NZ Post restarted most U.S. parcel services using digital customs forms, requiring more detailed sender and receiver information and offering options like 'Delivered Duty Paid' for business customers to cover duties and taxes. Gifts under NZD $150 can be sent without taxes using certain services, while higher value or non-gift items require express shipping with applicable duties charged to the receiver. Australia Post will resume shipments on or before September 25, 2025, after partnering with Zonos, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection authorized provider, to enable compliance with the new duty and customs requirements. Smaller Australian businesses, previously impacted by the suspension, will now regain affordable shipping options, though all commercial shipments must pre-pay duties and comply with mandatory declarations. Both postal services emphasized the importance of adhering to the updated rules and providing accurate customs information to ensure smooth parcel delivery to the U.S.
