Jurassic World Rebirth Reveals New Mutant Dinosaur Distortus Rex

Jurassic World Rebirth, directed by Gareth Edwards, introduces a new mutant dinosaur called the Distortus Rex, or D-Rex, described as a six-limbed hybrid resembling a cross between a T-Rex, H.R. Giger's designs, and a Rancor. This new installment returns the franchise to its roots by placing new characters, led by Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, on a third, previously unseen island used for InGen's most extreme genetic experiments. The film seeks to recapture the awe, fear, and jungle setting of the original Jurassic Park, prioritizing the dinosaurs' natural environment over the recent focus on their integration into human society. Alongside the D-Rex, audiences will encounter other experimental creatures like the winged Mutadons, emphasizing the theme of failed and dangerous genetic prototypes. Both Edwards and screenwriter David Koepp highlight the intention to blend nostalgia with new thrills, aiming to evoke both terror and sympathy for the film's monstrous creations. The movie is set for release on July 2, 2025.
